Breast Surgery

Asymmetry and congenital disorders
Breast asymmetry can be corrected through augmentation on one side, reduction on the other side, or both. The composition of glandular tissue plays a major role in choosing either of the techniques. In cases of congenital disorders, our concept of breast reconstruction includes the use of implants as well as tissue expanding. In selected cases a repositioning of the whole breast might be necessary. We will find the optimal therapeutic approach through examinations and conversations with you.

Gynecomastia
Male breast overdevelopment is known as gynecomastia. The aim of treatment is the removal of all glandular tissue and the reconstruction of the male chest. To achieve this we apply different suction techniques. After the operation it is necessary to wear a compression shirt for four weeks.

Breastreconstruction
In the treatment of breast tumours the surgical removal of the whole breast is sometimes necessary. Thus the cancerous tissue that has been removed can be reconstructed. As plastic surgeons we have differnet types of techniques available to achieve this. Breast implantation is one possibility. After radiation or when the skin is very thin, the reconstruction should be performed with the use of the patient's own body tissue. For this there are two major donor regions, either the major dorsal muscle or a fat skin graft from the abdominal region.
Breast cancer patients with very large breasts can undergo an additional breast reduction on the unaffected side. This leads to the attractive appearance of the newly formed breast.

Breast tumors
The operative treatment of a breast tumour will be performed in our clinic. After a detailed examination, the operative removal of the suspicious tissue is performed. We place much importance on scar-reducing approaches. The removed tissue will immediately be microscopically examined by our pathology department. The resulting hole in the breast will be covered by plastic surgical techniques, so that the form of the breast in most cases can be maintained. After the operation we will discuss the pathology report with you and initiate the necessary further treatment. If the tumor happens to be cancerous an interdisciplinary consultation must be initiated. Together, gynaecologists, oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, psychologists and the plastic surgeon decide on the further steps to be taken. Today more and more women can be cured of breast cancer and their quality of life can be improved.
